There are some good MLB betting systems that you can use in order to be successful when you wager on the American pastime.
The Home Series
It may be a good idea to wager in the home team in the first series game if they had won the previous series and if the away team is coming off a series loss. The home team you look to bet on should be putting up, at least, decent offensive numbers in that should had scored 5+ runs in their previous few games. In MLB the home field advantage is not simple to take into consideration as it is for other sports, such as football and basketball. You should know that the home field advantage is more of an advantage in the very first game of a series. The reason for this is that the away team gets used to playing on the field and is over the travel after staying in a city for a day or so. If the home team you want to bet on is doing well offensively they will have confidence coming into a home series.
The Home Favorite
It may be a good idea to bet on a minor home favorite if they have a winning percentage of at least 60% in their last 10 home games and they have been playing around .500 ball on the road in their last 10 games. To use this system the away team cannot be a hot one, as they should have a record below .500 in their last 10 road games. It is not a good idea, though, to bet on the first game of the series. The home field advantage in baseball is not as big as in other sports, but it is there. If there is a lot of public betting on the underdog away team, you can find value bets with home teams. It is very hard to sweep a team at home, so if the away team has won the first 2 games of the series, chances are, the home team will win game 3. The public tends to bet on the favorite and because of this if the road favorite in the first couple games of the series and you won some dough most of the public money in the 3rd game of the series would be on the road team. This is the reason why it is a good idea to bet on the home team.
When Betting on the Favorite Bet the Runline
You can get an underdog line when betting on the favorite if you use the runline. Again, the public loves to bet the favorite on the runline in order to reduce their risk and get a bigger payout. Because of this if the team you want to bet on lose on the runline in the first couple of games in a series then there would probably be more betting on the road game in the 3rd game of the series. A rule of thumb is to bet on the favorites on the moneyline up to -130. If the moneyline is higher then this it may be smart to bet the runline.
Betting on the Dogs
Underdog betting in MLB in a consistent manner and being successful is one of the first steps in cashing in when handicapping MLB. There are a lot of aspects that should be looked at when underdog betting. Most of the time the moneyline odds are tied in with the starting pitchers in a game. Therefore, the key is to find the aspects of the pitching in the game, like the bullpen. Generally, it is 4 times as risky to bet on the favorite and the reason is the juice. The public likes betting favorites and the books place less value on the spread of the favorite. It is not difficult to understand that the favorite should win the game, but you have to look at that likelihood of them winning against the spread.
When betting on the underdog you should look at these factors:
- If the dog is at home playing against a rival in the division. Teams will play their best baseball against teams that are rivals in their division. No matter what the standings are, division games are generally evenly matched.
- If the dog has played well offensively over the past few games.
- The dog is on a good winning streak, or are playing well over .500 in their past 15 games.
- The dog is facing a pitcher that plays to their strengths, such as playing better against a right hand pitcher or left hand pitcher.
If you discover that the dog meets 2 of 4 of these criteria, you have a good value bet on the underdog.
